New Sales and Use Tax Rates Effective January 1, 2017

The quarter percent state-wide sales and use tax rate hike that was approved in Proposition 30 and went into effect January 1, 2013, expired on December 31, 2016.

With the exception of the cities of San Mateo and Half Moon Bay, the sales and use tax will drop from 9 percent to 8.75 percent throughout the county. The sales and use tax will be 9 percent in San Mateo and 9.25 percent in Half Moon Bay due to previously passed voter initiatives in those cities.
